Join Ron Brownson (Senior Curator, New Zealand and Pacific Art, Auckland Art Gallery) for an introduction to Andy Leleisi’uao’s exhibition KAMOAN MINE. Take this opportunity to learn more about this masterful artist who was the recipient of the Wallace Arts Trust Paramount Award in 2017 (Wallace Art Awards).

In recognition of New Zealand Sign Language Week (6-12 May), this talk will be interpreted in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL).

Ron Brownson is Senior Curator New Zealand and Pacific Art at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. He has worked long-term as a professional curator and is an expert on New Zealand and Pacific art with has a particular interest in photography.

Andy Leleisi-uao is one of the most significant Pasifika artists living and working in New Zealand today. A full-time artist since 1996, his CV shows accomplishment with many exhibitions, awards, and residencies. Leleisi’uao is influenced by an enormous range of sources, drawing from ancient and modern history, literary and music history, art history, pop culture history, world headlines, personal experiences. He tells the story of what we can be as a species, regardless of our cultural stature, religious convictions, skin colour or sexual orientation.
