We’re happy to be hosting Auckland Council’s Movies in Parks again this year: please join us for Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie in Monte Cecilia Park, presented by Puketāpapa Local Board.

The Pah will be open late from 6.00pm until 9.00pm to offer pre-movie entertainment in the sculpture garden, and the opportunity to browse the galleries before the movie starts in the park at 8:30pm.

Homestead Café will offer a reduced menu, coffee and drinks and ice cream throughout the evening.

Inspired by Captain Underpants and our current exhibition Strangely Familiar: Portraits by Wayne Youle, we are offering a comic book art activity created by artist Mika He, as well as Wayne Youle – inspired portraits to colour in. Fun for all the young artists in your family!

About Mika He: born 1993 in Xi’an, China, Mika majored graphic design and graduated from Xi’an Jiaotong University city college in 2016. She now lives in Auckland and is finalising her Masters degree of design at AUT. Currently, she is creating a graphic novel based on personal experiences.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is based on the hugely popular book series: two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold, hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dim-witted superhero named Captain Underpants.

Additional pre-movie entertainment will be offered in the park from 6.30pm.

Movie starts at sunset (approx. 8.30pm), and finish at about 10pm.
This event is family-friendly, zero waste and smoke free.
