Sunday Concert Series: Levansa Trio

Sunday 11 August, 6.00pm

Two of New Zealand’s foremost classical musicians – APO concertmaster Andrew Beer and collaborative pianist Sarah Watkins – join with visiting Russian star cellist Lev Sivkov, winner of the Naumburg International Competition and principal cellist of Zurich Opera. The programme will include Dvorak’s riveting Piano Trio in F minor. Don’t miss this rare chance to experience the brilliance of this international star cellist.

“…Lev Sivkov’s cello sound has a graininess, a density, a weight. He deploys a broad spectrum of colours and emotions, he makes his instrument sing in a rare way, his intonation is never found lacking. Yes, he is a phenomenon.” (ConcertoNet.com.)

Violinist and APO Concertmaster Andrew Beer has been described as a “virtuoso soloist” by the San Francisco Classical Voice, as possessing a “glorious string tone” by Strad Magazine, and as a “musical gift” by the New York Times. He has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia, including live broadcasts on NHK Japan, CBC Radio-Canada, WQXR New York, RNZ Concert and ABC Classic.
